I just read about this great idea over on Smart and Sassy with Sprinkles (LOVE her blog... just started following and can't wait to read more!), and it couldn't have come at a better time. Starting September 1, quite a few bloggers are going to be participating in a Spending Freeze (read: no money spent except for on necessary items - bills, gas, rent). It couldn't have come at a better time for me, as I am worried about budgeting for an October wedding I am in, plus the holidays are coming up. This is a completely personal choice to participate, and you are free to make your own rules as to what you "freeze". Other than my bills that are due (4 medical bills, a car payment, insurance, gym, credit card, phone bill, rent and electric bill), I am not going to spend any additional money OTHER than having my bridesmaids dress altered for the October wedding... there is no getting around this, it has to be done.
What ever money I save at the end of each pay period will be transferred over to my savings account. I am hoping by October 1 to have some money saved, as I have some expenses to deal with on Molly (my Mazda Tribute) before winter hits. I'm very excited about this, but also know that it's going to be tough. I don't eat out a whole lot, and I have been avoiding Target like the Plague lately (for example, went in today for 2 items; 2 inexpensive items. $50 later, the red flats and black cardigan and jumped into my basket). I just need to buckle down and get things under control.
Are any of you game in doing this, or am I crazy and bound to fail??
