I, once again, have been a horrible blogger. Same song and dance, different day. I read, and I comment at times, I just don't have the energy to come home from working (and now volunteering, more on that later), make dinner, clean up, and then sit and post/comment every night. It makes me very sad... how is it that 5yrs ago, I would have the time to comment on every single post from every single blog and still write my own??? I love blogging, but I think right now it is becoming a burdon, and that is making me dread it... not good.
So yes... I am volunteering. Cramming even more into an already stressful life... LOVE IT! I have been a member of the Women's Auxillary at the American Legion Post (also where I bartend weekends) for 24yrs.... yep, do the math, since I was about 3. I would participate in the cookouts, helping where my mom (the bar manager for the past 4yrs) needed me, etc. I just never got involved in the politics, until 2 weeks ago.
I was asked to sit in on a meeting, for no reason other than the be a voice in a chair incase there was something brought up that shouldn't be, and there was. I got so mad, and so fired up at these (no offense intended by what I am about to say) 70yr old Bingo-Biddies who thought they ruled the place and that their word was Law. When I asked why we couldn't do things a different way, I was met with my least favorite stmt: "bc we've done it that way for over 30yrs"... it's 2011, and last time I checked, we lived in a nation of CHANGE.
Well, I vowed I wasn't going to let these ladies speak on my behalf anymore, so from now on I will be in every meeting, the first Monday of every month.
Sitting in the following meeting (an executive meeting that I was told to attend to learn proper protocol, but also to keep my mouth SHUT), they asked who the Social Committee rep was from the Auxillary. We didn't have one, but apparently we do now. I was voted in by default, by not saying a word. They want to attract a younger crowd, and figure I can help do that.
I know it sounds like an Old People bar, but we do have weekend entertainment, and the drink prices are amazing! $1.75 draft beers, $2.25 cans, $2.75 Top Shelf Drinks, $3.50 Jager Bombs... those are regular prices... NOT specials!!! We get younger bands, karaoke, etc in there, so it's not old people music either. Everytime I bring friends, they have a great time :)
The one downside is that you have to be a member to come in regularly (but I am allowed 5 people each time that are not family, so I usually have my mom sign some people in if I have over 10), but yearly dues are $20. I've saved that in one night of drinking, easily! You do have to have a family member that was in the service to be eligible, but with the ease of the internet, my mom can easily pull up their paperwork.
So that's the new things. I have a couple of events in the works, and I am super excited about this!
Have a great 4th of July!!!

If it's feeling like a burden could you cut back to 2 or 3 times a week? Happy 4th!
