What's YOUR Love story?

So, I already explained in a previous post a little more as to why my story is unique.  I was catching up on Becky's blog though, and noticed her fun February Link Up!  I adore her blog (I know, I say that about everyone, but honestly, if I didn't love it, I wouldn't be reading it, plain and simple).  Mama has her S**t together... from working nights to taking care of her little one and hubby, to cooking, deal shopping and looking hot, she's the girl.

Anyway, the idea was to answer a set of questions, based on your relationship status.  Well, I'm technically single, as in not married, but I consider myself VERY taken, so here it goes...

Taken Ladies

1. How long have you and your significant other been together?
J and I have been together for a total of 11yrs. There was a period where we were separated, but now that we have worked through our issues, I don't like to go into that time.  Out of sight, out of mind... didn't happen.  We were married for 2.5yrs though.

2. How did you meet? {What's your "love" story?}
 We met in High School, through our Drama club.  We were both in other relationships, and he was 2yrs older than me.  It wasn't until I started working at Target that we reconnected.  He was working there while going to college, and we were both single.  We started hanging out as friends, and it just went from there.

3. If married, how long have you been married? If not, is this the guy you hope to marry? {do tell}
We were married for 2.5yrs.

4. If you are married, where did you get married at? Big or small wedding?  If not, where would you like to get married? And will it be big or small?
We had a big wedding, and were married on the green at Laketown Golf and Conference Center.  Our reception was held inside the glass down.  It was gorgeous, but if I had to do it all over again, I would definitely downsize it and make it more intimate.

5. Do you have any nick-names that you call one another? Do share!
 Not really.  Other than "babe", honey, etc.  Nothing too silly or personal.

6. Name 3 things you love most about your honey.
 He is funny, caring and sensitive when need be, but also a very dedicated person.

7. Tell us how he proposed? Or your ideal proposal?
 Our proposal was anything but traditional, but then again, we aren't really an overly romantic couple.  He was planning on leaving for the Air Force, and since we had been ring shopping, I was thinking it might happen, but not expecting it at all!
I was working late one day, all by myself at work.  He called to tell me he was meeting me there, and then we were going out to dinner.  Since it was a Wednesday, it was a little odd, but I didn't think too much of it.
He got there, and I was finishing up.  I asked him to help me stuff some envelopes, and he signed and said "fine, but on one condition".  My back was turned, so I whipped around, frustrated, and there he sat, with a ring box open.  "If you'll marry me".  I started crying instantly, and it took me 2min to answer him.
Was it quirky, yep.  He said he wanted to do it at dinner, but was so nervous, he couldn't stand it any longer!

8. Is he a flowers and teddy bear kind of guy for v-day, or strawberries, champagne, and rose petals?
 Flowers and teddy bears, for sure.  :)

9. Are you a sunset dinner on the beach kind of girl, or pop a movie in and relax on the couch?
 I love going to see sunsets and doing nice dinners, but that isn't really his thing.  We do love having a couple drinks, and watching a good tv show snuggled on the couch more often than not.

10. Tell us one thing you'd like to do with your significant one day. If you could do anything? Go anywhere?
 If we could do anything for a day, I would say it would be to spend the day sight seeing and hiking somewhere, followed by a great dinner.  When we are in new cities or on vacation anywhere, really, this is our favorite way to spend a day.  So laid back, and just the 2 of us.

11. Tell us what you plan on doing on this Valentine's Day.
 We will probably make dinner together after working and then snuggle with some wine.  We are getting old, and the whole going out on town thing doesn't really appeal to me during the week.  We did just make plans to go out for dinner with our favorite couple to our favorite mexican place though, so that is as much of a night out as we will have :)
12. Are you asking for anything this Valentine's day?
 I'm not.  At first I wanted those cute heels, but I bought them myself.  Honestly, just spending time with him is more than enough.  If I get flowers, etc, it's just icing on the cake. :)

13. Give us one piece of advice of keeping a relationship strong and full of love.
 One night during my divorce, I was driving a drunk friend home after I had been bartending.  I remember this piece of advice to this day, and have told many people.  He looked at me and told me that most people think a relationship is 50/50... that should NEVER be the case.  If each of you are only giving 50%, what are you doing with the other 50%??  To make it work, you need to be willing to give all of yourself, and make the relationship 100/100.   I love this, and have really worked on living it...

14.  Show us a picture of what love means to you.

  1. Whoa. I love that 100/100 reference. That is THE TRUTH. I may have to steal that and put it somewhere. :)
