Darn Verizon!!!

So, a week ago a lovely little news article popped up on my FB Newsfeed:

This prompted me to send a wonderful little email to J, asking for his help deciphering it, as I am NOT the Techie one in our relationship (and he also recently worked as a Sprint Repair Tech for 6 months):

It's not that big of a deal since I'm pretty sure you don't use a ton of data on your phone anyway.  You would have had to ditch the unlimited data plan anyway in order to get 4G LTE.  Even on a tiered plan you probably won't hit your data cap unless you're streaming Pandora or watching a bunch of netflix on your phone.

So then, I felt a little better, but not much.  See, I have been a Verizon Customer for over 5yrs, and I pay DEARLY for my service.  I have 400 Anytime minutes, Unlimited Txt, and the current Unlimited Data (At $30/month), making my monthly phone bill an average of $120/Month, for just my phone!!!! (J uses Virgin mobile, but is looking at Verizon when the new phones come out this summer - again, the Tech in him!)
I have checked with Sprint, and have considered making the switch, however their coverage is not nearly as good as Verizon's, which is one of the perks.  And now they are taking my unlimited data away if I upgrade my phone?!??!  I was happy that I was "Grandfathered" in when I upgraded last yr, now that doesn't matter?  Not cool, Verizon, not cool...

So now, they are stating that in order to keep my Unlimited Data, I either cannot upgrade past  3G phone, or I have to pay full price for my phone, rather than the Discounted Upgrade Fee.  Tell me where that makes any sense, why would I want to stick with a 3G phone if I can have 4G, and why wouldn't I take the discount on my phone??!?!?  There is no logic there...

To make myself feel a little better (I am hoping), I decided to do some research and see if J was right, and that I didn't use as much data as I thought:

Ummm. yeah... 522,337.3KB of Unlimited, 18days into my billing cycle. (Upon translating, it appears that is about 1/2 a GB, and on my last bill, I used just over 1GB)
On Verizon's website, it says that 2GB will still be $30/month, and then it's $10/month extra for every additional GB)

J and I will be discussing this, bc to me that seems like a lot.  I have been working on cutting back... I have my WiFi turned on now, so at home I am on the WiFi rather than the network, but still.  I don't watch a lot of movies or YouTube on my phone, so I am not sure how I can cut that down?  I guess I am stuck, unless I want to switch phone companies... I am due for a new phone in January and need one desperately...

So, now that I have rambled and vented, what provider do you use, and are you fuming about the recent Verizon changes?
