*Preface:
I am NOT someone who was raised in a religious household. I went to Sunday School and Vacation Bible School when I stayed with my aunt during the summers, and then when I was in Middle School I went to Youth Group with girlfriends, but as far as religion at home, we weren't ones to pray, read the Bible or even go to Church regularly. That being said, while I am a spiritual person and I pray regularly, I am not someone who often contemplates religion, etc. J and I were raised very differently that way. He was raised 7th Day Adventist, and technically I was raised Lutheran, which makes for some very interesting topics in our household.
That being said, a blogger I followed way back when, posted a very interesting blog on Sunday that got me thinking. I started talking to J, and since I have NEVER sat down and just read parts of the Bible, and he has read most of the Bible, but not the whole thing, we are also going to try and do this together. It has already sparked some interesting and thought-provoking discussions between us.
Both of us have questioned faith for a long time... and I know that sounds horrible. However, we think it is very important that we try and keep up with this, so we can form our own opinions, etc. As J said to me, the Bible is one of the most important books, no matter your beliefs, etc... so why wouldn't you want to read it? It is such a huge part of our culture, whether you are religious or not. Often times, there will be references made in different scenarios that I don't understand... which frustrates me, as I tend to think I am an intelligent woman.
I am not planning on ranting and raving, or shove my thoughts down your throat. But it is something we are definitely going to try and do EVERY night. For us. Something else we can do together, and discussions we can have as a team.
Have a great night, Girlies. What are your thoughts on this?
So glad I could inspire you! If it makes you feel any better, I was raised in the church and have read most of the Bible multiple times, and I still have questions! Haha.
ReplyDeleteI'd suggest getting a Study Bible in an updated version (NIV, NLT, CEV). The language will be easier to understand and the Study Bible will have notes that might answer some of your questions.
I'd be happy to put in my 2 cents if you have questions too! :-)
