Blogher Prompt: What's an experience you've had in your life that has made you learn something about yourself?

I know, another prompt based post.  I'm hoping I don't lose followers, but if I do, it won't be because I offended someone.  These prompt have been in my Google calendar for a while, so I am playing catch up on getting things posted!

Something that has taught me a lot about myself?
1. My parents divorce.  It was messy... VERY messy.  It's still complicated 16yrs later, and I still have issues to work through because of it.  I learned that actions don't necessarily always define a person, but sometimes they do, and sometimes it is hard to get past that.  I also learned how to be independent at a very young age.  I HAD to.  My mom was working 2-3jobs to take care of my sisters and I, and sometimes I had to be the one there when they got home from school, or on Saturdays when she was showing houses.

2. My own divorce.  Not like my parents, but it is something J and I work through every single day.  In fact, the year I turned 25 was huge for me.  I was divorced, jobless and living at home. My how things change in 3yrs.  I learned who my friends were, who I could depend on, who I couldn't trust and really how strong of a person I really was.  It was a very eye-opening year for me as a person, and although I wish that somethings from this period of my life could be taken back or erased, I am proud of the woman I became in sprite of everything.

  1. Very raw post Amber. Kudos to you for taking two tough experiences and finding a way to learn and grow from them.
